

Beaton Hugh “Hughie" Malcolm, Age 78, passed away peacefully in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital on February 2, 2015 after a short battle with cancer. Born in Little Judique on April 12, 1936, he was the son of the late David and Effie (MacInnis) Beaton. Hugh worked as an auto mechanic for many years, starting at his uncle Hughie’s garage and eventually the owner/ operator of Beaton and MacDonald Service Station in Port Hood. He could fix anything mechanical and was always willing to lend a helping hand. After retirement he enjoyed spending time doing chores and odd jobs around the home.
He is survived by his wife, Florence (Gillis); sons, Cordell (Geraldine), Falmouth; Sheldon (Becky), Niverville, Man.; and granddaughters, Christine, Erin and Katie, who were his pride and joy. Also surviving are his sister, Sylvia (late James) Pellerin, Little Judique; brother, Harold (Norma), Leduc County, Alta.; sisters-in-law, Kate (late Burke) Beaton, Little Judique; Donna (late Alexander) Beaton, Burlington, Ont.; and many nieces and nephews. Hugh was predeceased by his parents, sister, Rose (late Huntley) MacIsaac; and brothers Alexander, Duncan, Burke, and Robert.
Visitation will be held on Friday February 6th, in Port Hood & Area Resting Place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday February 7 at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Parish Church, Port Hood with Fr. Bernie MacDonald celebrating. Burial at a later date in Port Hood Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Central Inverness Palliative Care Society.
