It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Andrew Stewart in Inverary Manor, Inverness on Monday, March 16th, 2026, with his family by his side.
John was born in Inverness on February 11, 1934, and was a son of the late James and Catherine (MacLellan) Stewart,
In John's younger years he was active with the local boy's hockey teams. He held many rolls, including coaching and making sure the kids were always at their games on time. John was a huge sports fan, especially the Oilers and Maple Leaf's, as well as the Toronto Blue Jays.
John was known as a very hardworking man, modest and humble. He was proud of his days hard rock mining. He was also a dedicated plumber for over 30 years; he was practicing well into his 80's, especially for his friends to make sure the taps never went dry. He would never let a neighbor go without. John was a lover of square dancing, never wanted to miss a good set at the local dances.
John is survived by his sons, Joe, Danny, Andy, Norman, Jimmy; daughters, Julie and Annie Laura. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle (Smith) Stewart; siblings, Catherine, Florence, Donald, Mike, Angus, Alex, Finley, John Angus and Mary. John was also predeceased by his second set of parents, his Uncle Dan and Aunt Mary.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Inverary Manor, for the constant care of our dad, and especially to the staff of the Oceanview Villa which dad resided.
Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral Home on Friday, March 20th, 2026, from 3-7 pm. Funeral Mass to take place in Stella Maris Church, Inverness on Saturday, March 21st, 2026, at 11:00 am. Burial to be held at a later date.
