OBITUARY

Judith Kathleen "Judy" McEwan

June 20, 1958September 2, 2020

Judith Kathleen McEwan,

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our dear sister Judy McEwan who died September 2, 2020 surrounded by her loving adoptive family at the L’Arche community in Orangedale. Judy was born in Glace Bay on June 20,1958 to the late Thomas and Kathleen McEwan. Judy cherished the many years she lived with family and friends in her hometown. In the early years Judy attended workshops for the intellectually challenged in Glace Bay at a time when support for persons with a developmental handicap was in its infancy. After her parents' passing Judy moved to the L’Arche community in Orangedale in 2002, where she became a very active and loved member of the L'Arche family. It was here Judy worked, played, travelled and bonded in this caring and supportive setting. It was Judy’s sense of humour that made her stand out with all the many persons she came into contact with over the past 60 years. Besides her parents, Judy was predeceased by brother, Robert; sister, Doris; sisters-in-law, Frances McEwan. Judy is survived by siblings, James (Deanna); Raymond (Carolyn), Nelson, Elaine Heath, Sheldon(Linda), Marilyn (Keith) MacDonald; sister-in-law, Effie McEwan and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Inverness Funeral Home and a private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial Donations in memory of Judy can be made to L’Arche Cape Breton, 3 L'Arche Lane, Iron Mines, NS B0E 2K0. Online condolences may be made to: www.invernessfuneralhome.com

Judy was the funniest and most adorable person I've ever met. I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to live with her for almost 2 years. She taught me so many things. I cannot be more grateful for her friendship. I will never forget her. She was my best friend, my reason for waking up every day with a smile on my face. I did everything I could for her. Now she has become my angel, and I will love her forever.

In 1995, when my Dad died, my cousin Linda and I were visiting Kay and Judy when she pulled me into her bedroom and sang Amazing Grace. She was also a great fan of Charlie Pride. She loved music.
