OBITUARY

Kevin William Kennedy

August 28, 1954January 30, 2021

Kevin William Kennedy passed away due to natural causes on Saturday, January 30th 2021 in his home in Inverness. Born in New Waterford on August 28th 1954 to Dougald Kennedy and Rose (MacArthur) both of Inverness, Kevin shared his laughter and love of family and home with everyone. Predeceased by both parents and infant brother Stephen (1947) as well as his favourite lady, Dyney Gillis. Kevin is survived by his siblings and their families, and his cat; Dougald (Marijke) and his children Stephanie, Rebecca and Peter (Erin) (and their mother Monica); Corrine (Mike Donnelly) and their children Chrissy (Ale) and Sean; Gordie and Jan and his children Gordon (Kerry), Ellen (John), Megan (Brett) and Steven (and their mother Johnena); Norma and her daughter, Verna; and his beloved cat Guinness.

A graduate of Inverness High School, Kevin attended St Mary’s University, Nova Scotia Community College and numerous other education and learning institutes as his life and work experiences took him and his stories through many different twists and turns. His fine eye for detail probably provided as many stories for his co-workers over the years as it did for creating all the detailed stories that he would tell of them, no matter how long it took to get to the point of the story. As a great enthusiast of cars, bikes, food, books, bad cowboy movies and anyone’s pet that was within reach, Kevin was always able to make those around him feel like their interests were his interests. He appreciated the community found in the KOC Inverness Council 2298, the Ceilidh Trail CB Club, and in the many old friends and relatives that were there for him when he returned to the Island.

Special thank you’s go out to his many good friends; The McMasters, Campbells, Feehans and the MacDougalls, as well as many cousins especially Marilyn and Jane. The folks at the Inverness Hospital and the Dialysis Clinic, the diabetic staff and his doctor’s with a special thank you for Dr. Jean M. MacLachlan.

Any funeral service or memorial in Inverness is being held off until we can all be together and folks will be notified with enough time to get there. But in the meantime we are gathering pictures and stories with intent to share them. In Kevin’s memory donations may be made to one of three charities that were close to his heart; MillRoad Social Enterprises, Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or the Inverness area group Citizens Caring for Animals. Dear Doug, Corrine, Gordie and Norma - it has taken me several days to come here, especially, in trying to find the words that I want to express from my heart. To me, Kevin was a like a little brother, brown-eyed, dark hair and always tanned from his love of the outdoors, among so many blue-eyed Beaton boys. He always had great excitement in what he was achieving as a child, a teen and, again, as an adult. His love of life and for people found us in conversation when we saw each other running errands. Kevin was always the same: smiling, telling stories of his experiences, his friends and his deep faith. He was a very humble man with a gentle, loving soul, so strong and resilient in living with ill health yet, ending our talks with laughter. Kevin will be missed by so many. Sending love to you all.
