

Beaton, Margaret Elizabeth -95, wife of the late Angus Beaton, “Tailor”, Mabou ridge, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2012, in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Born on June 17, 1917, she was a daughter of the late William and Annie (MacDonnell) Parker, Brook Village. Margaret was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Mabou. a long standing member of St. Mary’s CWL and was very devoted to her faith. Mom graduated in 1937 as a teacher from the Normal Collage in Truro and taught in one-room school houses in Dunakin, West Lake Ainslie, Rankinville and Centerville. Throughout her life she maintained a keen interest and knowledge in local genealogy and was often called upon as a reference for such information. A special place was always held in her heart for her cats “Neeley”and “Dougie” who were appropriately named after her favourite hockey players, Cam Neely and Doug Gilmore. She loved laughing, telling stories and making tea for all who came to the house. Our lord and St. Peter are probably enjoying her tea and biscuits right now. Mom is deeply missed by her sons, Alexander, (Mary Aeneas), Coldbrook; John Alexander, “A.J.” and Daniel, (Linda), Mabou Ridge; she is also survived by her sister, Mary Rankin, Inverness; grandchildren, Maura, Kyla, Iain, Trudy, Clayton, Eilidh and Kenzie; great-granddaughters, Sadie and Thea. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Angus "Alex the tailor" and brother Archie.
Visitation will be held in the vestry of St. Mary’s Church, Mabou on Wednesday December 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday December 13 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Mabou with Fr. Angus Morris officiating, burial will take place in the parish cemetery at a later date.
