With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, Mary Georgina "Gina" Cameron. Our blue-eyed angel left us peacefully on the morning of Sunday, March 22, 2015 at the age of 76. Born on December 10, 1938, in Inverness, she was a daughter of the late Ronald Leddy (otherwise known as Boss) and Italia Frances Vataline (Tubetti) MacDonald. Gina is survived by her son, Angus Ronald, Port Hood; and her three daughters, Mary Noelle (Milo), Bedford; Denise Maureen (Todd), Port Hawkesbury; and Jennifer Sarah, Port Hood; grandchildren Cameron, Anna, Luke, Niko, JJ and Alexander and many nieces and nephews; sister, Maureen (John) Cameron, British Columbia; and brothers Ronald (Carol) MacDonald, Woodstock, N.B.; Daryl (Alice) MacDonald, New Waterford, N.S.; and Frank (Anne Louise) MacDonald, Antigonish. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donald Joseph (Josie) (1998).
Gina was a hairdresser and spent many years working in her shop set up in her home, making her customer’s look and feel beautiful. Raising her children was her top priority in life and having her shop at home allowed her to have the best of both worlds. Many times when you walked into our family home, you would be welcomed by the smell of fresh homemade bread because our Dad would never settle for anything less than the best. Cookie tins would always be filled with homemade goodies made with love for her children and grandchildren and anyone who decided to pop in for a visit or a laughter-filled game of cards. In the fall, the smells of pickling beets, green tomato chow, beans and carrots would take over to help preserve the hard work of the bountiful garden our family grew. Mom enjoyed skating and long walks and even after her first leg amputation her determination showed through as she continued to enjoy her walks, even though they were shorter and not as frequent. After her second amputation several years later, walking was no longer possible but she continued to enjoy singing. She was a member of the church choir for many years, an activity she truly enjoyed and treasured, and we were all blessed to hear that lovely voice on many occasions. We have many great memories of our mom but the best memory of her will be her loving, kind, gentle and selfless soul.
Many thanks to the wonderful, kind and caring friends and staff of the Inverary Manor where Gina was taken care of so well and who made the latter part of her life so enjoyable. Special thanks to the staff of the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital for their compassion and for making mom’s transition to the afterlife a dignified and comfortable one. Gina’s family will receive friends at the Port Hood and Area Resting Place on Wednesday, March 25 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm., with funeral service being held on Thursday, March 26 at 11am in St. Peter’s Church, Port Hood. Fr. Vincent vanZutphen will officiate. Burial to take place in the parish cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Inverary Manor, Inverness or to St. Peter’s Parish Cemetery Fund, Port Hood.
