It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mildred “Millie” Gillis, 92, of Upper Margaree on Friday, September 16, in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital with family members by her side. A daughter of the late Duncan and Nellie (MacKinnon) MacLellan, Millie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Millie was predeceased in 1985 by her husband of 25 years, John Dan Gillis. Millie and John Dan opened their hearts to their sons, Alex and Norman MacNeil, many years ago. Millie was an honest, hard-working woman who proudly enjoyed her independence and was a generous and caring mother and grandmother. She is survived by her “boys” Alex (Mary) and Norman (Theresa) of Upper Margaree; her grandchildren, Catherine MacNeil, Fort MacMurray, Alta., Christine, John Dan, Kelsey and Allison MacNeil, Upper Margaree; her special grandson, Alexander MacIsaac and many nieces and nephews. There will be a graveside service at St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery, S. W. Margaree with Father Doug MacDonald officiating.
Everyone is welcome to join us as we celebrate Millie's life at her home, 1131 S. W. Margaree Road, Upper Margaree on Sunday, September 25, beginning at 1 p.m.
Alex and Norman and their families would like to thank the wonderful, compassionate staff of the Inverness Memorial Consolidated Hospital and Dr. Bernie MacLean for the loving care that Millie received over the years, especially these last few weeks. Your kindness to us will never be forgotten. Donations in Millie’s memory may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society, St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund, South West Margaree or a charity of your choice.
