MacKenzie, Neil Joseph Sr. – 66. The family of the late Neil Joseph MacKenzie Sr. announce his passing on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at home in Orangedale with loved ones by his side. He was born in Port Hood, Inverness Co., Cape Breton on March 14, 1946. He was the son of the late John and Isabel (MacDonald) MacKenzie. He was a member of St. Peter’s Parish of Port Hood. With a guitar in one hand and a song in his heart he always made friends wherever he’d go. A gentle man, who fought hard, did his best to stay strong with a smile on his face. Neil is survived by his partner, Jennie (MacNeil) Grandy, formerly from Iona, Victoria Co., residing in Orangedale; children, John (Rose), Yarmouth; Linda, Dartmouth; Neil Jr. (Carmen), Dartmouth; Robert (Greg), St. John, N.B.; Jesslyn (Chris), Clinton, Ont.; siblings, John Alex, British Columbia; Hughie, Stratlorne; Margaret, Sydney; Alex, Inverness; Jessie, Judique; Cookie, Port Hood; Mary, Toronto, Ont.; Theresa, New Glassgow; grandchildren, Ashley, Catherine, Emma, Zack, James, Nicholas and Nate; great-grandchildren, Serenity; numerous neices and nephews. Neil is predeceased by brothers, John Alex MacKenzie in infancy, Donald Colin, Charles Kenneth and A.J. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in St. Peter’s Church, Port Hood, on Monday, November 19th, 2012 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. with funeral Mass to follow at 11a.m., Fr. Vincent VanZutphen officiating.
