It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Murphy on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 in Inverary Manor, Inverness. Born in Tracadie, New Brunswick on December 20, 1940, Wayne was a son of the late Stella Murphy (Saulnier) and the late Sydney Murphy.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sadie; sons, David and Charles; daughter, Michelle; sisters, Carmeline and Bernetta; brother, Armel; his three grandchildren, Stella, Siobhan and Pearse; and many nieces and nephews.
Wayne was predeceased by his brother, Wilson and his sister, Muriel (Legere).
He graduated from Saint Anne's College in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts in History, and subsequently, from St. Francis Xavier University with his Bachelor and Master of Education. He became principal of Port Hood Consolidated School in 1967 and completed his career as principal of Judique-Creignish Consolidated School in 1993. Wayne and Sadie opened Sara's Crafts and Gifts in 1988, which became The Clove Hitch Restaurant in 2010 under new owners. He was truly his happiest when helping others and volunteered his time throughout his community, from the Allan MacInnis Arena to St. Peter's Parish. Wayne was a devout Catholic and head of the local Presidium of the Legion of Mary. He touched the lives of many people and kept on giving through his entire life. He will be missed by all. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Inverary Manor for their compassion and care during Wayne's stay.
Visitation will take place on Friday July 15th in Port Hood and Area Resting Place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday July 16th in St. Peter's Church, Port Hood at 11:00 a.m. with Father Andrew Gillies officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
