It is with the heaviest of hearts that we regret to announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Rita Louise Gillis who passed away suddenly on December 12, 2015 at the age of 75. Rita is survived by her children, Mary Annette (Jerry) Gillis, Johnena (James) MacFadyen, Kevin (Carolann) Gillis, Wade Gillis, Roxanne (Ronnie) MacPhee and Danita (Aaron) Gillis. Rita had 8 cherished grandchildren: Haley, Harrison, Logan, Mira, Dane, Daria, Danni Rae and Mallory whom all brought her great love and happiness each day. Rita is also survived by sisters; Theresa, Anne and Mary; and brothers, John Francis and Collie.
Rita is predeceased by her parents, John Finley & Mary Sara MacDonald; infant sons, Peter and Darcy; brothers, D.A., I.D., Alexander, Dan Archie and Kenneth Joseph; sisters, Sarah Anne, Catherine Florence and Mary Catherine. Rita was known for her huge heart, great laugh and helping hand to anyone who needed it. She loved square dances, bingo and socializing. Rita was at her best when she was surrounded by people. She was the finest lady God created, but above all else, she was the most loving mother to her children. Our hearts will be forever broken. Until we are together again Mom. Visitation will be held in the vestry of St. Mary’s Church, Mabou on Tuesday, December 15th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 16th in St. Mary’s Church, Mabou at 11a.m. with Fr. Bernie MacDonald officiating. Burial in the Parish Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.
