

Bennie Joe Horton, 70, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, died in Bella Vista of cancer on April 29, 2025.
He was born in Biloxi, Mississippi in 1954 to Robert & Lydia Horton, and is one of six children. Bennie was a child of a military family and spent his childhood in Mississippi until his father Robert was stationed in Wichita Falls. The family moved to Iowa Park, and he graduated from Iowa Park High School in 1972. He attended Midwestern State University where he received a bachelor’s’ degree in business. He met the love of his life, Jan Tennant and they got married in 1981, and they were married 43 years. Bennie & Jan had two sons, Sean and Cody. Bennie began work at CRYOVAC in 1977 and worked for the company for 47 years, both in Iowa Park, Texas and in Rogers, Arkansas locations. Bennie & Jan moved to Bella Vista in 2009, and he worked at Sealed Air until the time of his passing. Bennie throughout his life worked with various charity organizations including the United Way of Iowa Park, Iowa Park Optimist Club, and Special Olympics of Arkansas. Bennie had a deep commitment to loving God and serving in his local church. He attended both Faith Baptist Church of Iowa Park and Bella Vista Baptist Church where he was a deacon, serving others. Bennie loved attending local sports and cheering on his sons, grandkids, and even other people’s children as if they were his own. He loved watching his kids play sports and he was especially proud of his son Cody who competed in Special Olympics activities, his grandson, Cowan, playing tuba in the marching band, and his granddaughter, Leona, cheerleading and playing basketball.
Bennie was preceded in death by his father Robert Horton and his brother Bobby Horton both of Iowa Park, TX. Bennie is survived by his wife Jan Tennant Horton of Bella Vista, AR; son, Cody Horton of Bella Vista, AR; son Sean Horton and wife Tracie of Italy, TX; grandchildren Cowan and Leona Horton of Italy, TX; mother, Lydia Horton of Iowa Park, TX; sister Beverly Archer of Mt. Calm, TX; brother William (Bill) Horton and wife Robin of Iowa Park, TX; sister-in-law Judy Horton of Iowa Park, TX; sister Beckie Wirmel & husband Terry of Iowa Park, TX; brother Blaine Horton and wife Maria of Iowa Park, TX. Also he is survived by many nieces and nephews, and friends in both Texas and in Arkansas.
A visitation for Bennie will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dutton Funeral Home, 300 East Cash Street, Iowa Park, TX 76367. A funeral service will occur Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Faith Baptist Church, 411 S Wall St, Iowa Park, TX 76367.
