Bobby Bounds, Sr. was born April 20, 1937, in Bowie, Texas, to William Jackson and Ethel Lois (Holt). He passed away Friday, December 14, 2012, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Bob grew up in Buffalo Springs and later attended Midway schools. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Wanna Burney and Betty Myers. Bob is survived by his brother Jerry Mack of Bethany, Oklahoma, lifelong friend Shirley Bounds of Wichita Falls, daughters Sam Bounds Hatfield and husband Kevin of Burkburnett, Debbie Bounds of Wichita Falls, and son Bobby Bounds Jr. and wife Kelli of Iowa Park. He was “Grumps” to four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Bob was famous throughout the area for his brisket and he used his BBQ talents for many benefits and fundraisers in the area. He owned Bob Bounds Paving Co. from 1971-1999, and if you live in Wichita Falls, chances are you’ve driven on a street he built. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. Bob loved to work hard and listen to good music. He loved his friends and was a great friend to people from all walks of life. He loved his children and taught them how to work hard and treat others fairly.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 18, from 6-8 p.m. at Dutton Funeral home in Iowa Park, and funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 19 at First United Methodist Church in Iowa Park with Dr. Jon Eckstein officiating. Pallbearers: Jason McGrath, Ray Pace, Dallas McCarty, Glen Scott, Flip Cozby, Wayne Horton, Lee McCloud, and Tracey Andrews. Arrangements under the direction of Dutton Funeral home in Iowa Park, burial to follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Wichita Falls. Memorials may be made to North Texas Rehab Center.
