Dorothy Nell Beard

IOWA PARK – Dorothy Nell (Phillips) Beard, age 86, longtime Iowa Park resident, passed away October 6, 2011 in Mexia, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2011, at Dutton Funeral Home Chapel in Iowa Park with Rev. Dennis Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Iowa Park, under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born May 27, 1925 in Navarro, Texas to Wilburn Clifton and Elizabeth Rose (Moreau) Phillips. They preceded her in death. She was a high school graduate and attended business college for one year. She married Robert Beard in 1946. She worked in civil service at Reese Air Force Base for four years and retired in 1976 from Sheppard Air Force Base as an aircraft dispatcher. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Iowa Park, Eastern Star No. 42, Daughters of The Nile, and Friendly Door Senior Citizens of Iowa Park.

Survivors include one son, Larry Beard of Iowa Park; grandson, Robert Beard and wife, Kristi of Mexia, Texas; two great grandchildren; niece, Yvonne Fortson and husband, Larry of Mexia, Texas; nephews, Billy and Bobby Beard of Shreveport, Louisiana; nephew, Melvin Beard and wife, Jo Ann of Cypress, Texas; niece, Jo Ann Rowe of Florida; and sister-in-law, Carol Phillips of Iowa Park.

Memorials are suggested to Friendly Door Senior Citizens, 810 North 3rd Street, Iowa Park, Texas 76367.

Visitation with be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2011, at Dutton Funeral Home Chapel.
