Essie Belle (Gilbert) Davis, 97, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012 in Electra, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Electra with Rev. Paul Winegeart, pastor, officiating. Graveside Services will follow at Electra Memorial Park under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park.
Essie Belle was born March 27, 1915 in Electra to Charles Alexander Gilbert and Mary (Kemple) Gilbert. She graduated from Harrold Schools and was a homemaker. Essie Belle married Julius Mack Davis on September 12, 1934 in Davidson, Oklahoma. She was a member and Sunday School Teacher at the Grayback Baptist Church for many years. Her and her husband were members of the Pioneer’s of Texas Travel Club and enjoyed spending her time gardening, sewing, quilting, and cooking.
Essie Belle is preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sons, Tommy and Eddy Davis; one great grandson, Matthew Poole; four brothers, Delbert “Dug” Gilbert, Boyd “Dick” Gilbert, Raymond “Douge” Gilbert, and Clarence “Pete” Gilbert; and two sisters, Bessie Eckelkamp and Juanita Whisnand.
Surviving relatives include three granddaughters, Tania Poole of Borger, Texas; Cheryl Gries of Haslet, Texas; and Denise Carter Baytown, Texas; two grandson, Steven Cox of Amarillo, Texas and Larry Mack Davis of Kansas City, Kansas; seven great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; one brother, Harvey “Pat” Gilbert and one sister, Ida June Holland both of Electra, Texas. Pallbearers will be Troy Gilbert, Mark Carter, Wayne Whisnand, Chase Robb, Steven Gilbert, and Wayne Holbert.
Visitation will be held from 10 AM until service time at the First Baptist Church of Electra.
