Gary W. Ammons

Gary was born May 24th,1953 in San Marcos, Texas to Nellie Jo Lowry and Jessie William Ammons.

Gary was the oldest of two and raised most of his life in Kamay, Texas, Where he helped raise his two nephews. He has a tight knit family all living in a single block and when the children needed attention, he was there to help. It included riding them on the lawn mower to go to sleep or because one of the children had colic. He was always there to do the job. He will be remembered around Kamay by his acts of kindness to his neighbors. He would wait for his neighbors to leave and then paint the garages and propane tanks and even trim trees.

He married the love of his life Sherry on October 7th 2017. They eventually made their home in Kamay but lived in Iowa Park where they attended Church and got adjusted to a family life. This included her children Mei and Antwain Wilson of Sherman, Tx, their children Jasmine and Rashawn. Toby Duck and wife Rhonda Tyler of Orcutt, California and their child Bashtian.

He worked for Coke Cola for nearly 50 years, where he was known as "Stringer". Because of his height and weight he was affectionately known as String bean, which eventually was shortened. When he first started in 1974 it was family owned/operated and manufactured locally. He worked with three generations of Coke workers and when the company was sold they teased that he went with the building. He refused to retire even when he was sick. His goal was to be at the company for the full 50 years. He lacked 3 months of meeting the goal.

Gary is survived by his wife Sherry Ammons; Step children Mei and Antwain Wilson of Sherman, Tx, their children Jasmine and Rashawn. Toby Duck and wife Rhonda Tyler of Orcutt, California and their child Bashtian. A Brother David and wife Renee; Nephews Curtis and Stephanie and their daughters Rylie and Karly; Daniel and Holley and their daughter Chloe and many extended family and friends.
