Gene Weldon Rice

Gene Weldon Rice, 81, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2010 in Iowa Park. Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Iowa Park Church of Christ with Mr. Bill Lockwood officiating. Services are under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park.

Gene was born December 17, 1928 in Talihina, OK to Gene Stanley and Edith (Osborne) Rice. He was a graduate of Benton High School in Benton, LA and was a member of the Iowa Park Church of Christ. At one time, Gene worked for M & M Manufacturing Company as a Laborer. He enjoyed gardening and was a good Samaritan who was always willing to help others in need. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Rice, and his parents.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Rowena (Bacon) Rice of Iowa Park; brother, Burton Rice of Angie, LA; two sons, Gene Weldon Rice, Jr. of Tyler, TX and Bradley Rice of Oil City, LA; one daughter, Denise of North Carolina; also his children, Valton, Fay, and Glenn; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM on Monday, October 4, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Friendly Door Senior Citizens, 810 North 3rd St., Iowa Park, TX 76367.
