Glyn Odell Shelnutt was anointed with his angel wings and flew to his heavenly home on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 89 years of age. He was born to Homer and Burtie Shelnutt on March 18, 1936, in Clyde, Texas. Glyn loved the Lord, laughter, and helping others. He was known for his quick wit and infectious smile when visiting with friends, enjoying a game of dominos, or watching western shows. He was a faithful and active member of Northwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City and could often be found at bible study, Sunday school and church services.
Glyn graduated from Cobb High School in Southeastern Oklahoma as part of the Class of 1957. Notably, he attended all school reunions until his health stopped him from traveling in 2024.
Glyn relocated to Oklahoma City in the mid-1970s to pursue better job opportunities. He was immensely proud of the fact that he was able to purchase his own trailer home which he lived in until 2024. Glyn held various jobs in Oklahoma City, including forklift operator at an auto parts warehouse, security officer, and school crossing guard. He received a Letter of Commendation from Pinkerton Security for his work at the OG&E Belle Isle Plant in 1983 and a Special Distinction Award from Pinkerton in 1988. Glyn received a Governor’s Commendation during the Governor’s Disability Employment Awards of Excellence in 2000. Glyn experienced many physical challenges but managed to conquer them through his ingenuity and engineering skills. Glyn’s passion for sewing allowed him to make many of his own clothes including an entire suit. He enjoyed quilting and was awarded a patent for designing and developing a quilting frame.
Glyn is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Burtie Shelnutt, as well as six siblings: Thelma Hatley, Alvin Shelnutt, Lenora Shelnutt, Alpheus Boston, Winford Shelnutt, Marvin Shelnutt, and his long-term friend, Hettie Waggoner.
