Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Dutton Funeral Home Chapel of Iowa Park, with longtime friend, Margie Negri of Iowa Park, officiating. Graveside services will follow at Highland Cemetery Pavilion under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.
Jimmie was born March 16, 1916 in Oil Trough, Arkansas. She was one of 16 children born to Leon Sadler and Louella Crowder Sadler. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, where her family owned a small dairy and also raised turkeys. She attended school through the ninth grade when she was old enough to get a job and help out at home. She married Earl Stanley Griffith in 1935. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Jimmie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Iowa Park, a 60 year member of Rebekah Lodge #236, ABAW for over 50 years, NARFE for 20 years having worked at Sheppard AFB in civil service. She was a past president of National Association of Retired Federal Employees, past president of the Society of Federal Labor Relation Professionals, and worked with American Federation of Government Employees representing blue-collar workers and training people on how to get better pay and benefits. She assisted her son, Gordon Griffith, in all of his County Commissioner campaigns and received numerous letters of recognition from the Texas Democratic Party. In 2003, she received Star Recognition from the Texas Democratic Women. She volunteered with Hospice of Wichita Falls and the American Cancer Society, S.A.C.K., and was team captain for two years for Relay for Life.
Survivors include daughter, Barbara Bell Morgan, and son, Gordon Walter Griffith and wife, Rose, of Iowa Park, Texas, daughter, Frances Lenox of Wichita Falls, Texas, and daughter, Sudda McLaughlin and husband, Greg, of Iowa Park, Texas; brother-in-law, William Griffith, of Dallas, Texas; 8 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a special niece, Lou Cain Miller and several other nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 28, 2012, at Dutton Funeral Home Chapel.
