Services will be Friday, November 30, 2018 at 1:00 PM in the chapel at Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park, TX with Dr. David Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park. Visitation will be Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Joyce was born February 3, 1931 to Roscoe Whitaker and Hazel Meek Whitaker. She grew up in Archer City, Texas, which is also where she met the love of her life, John Rentschler. When she first met John, she always claimed that she heard God tell her he was the man she was going to marry. And she did marry him at her parents’ home in 1950. Joyce was a talented musician, serving as pianist of Faith Baptist Church, Iowa Park, for thirty years and teaching piano lessons. She was also an accomplished artist, primarily painting landscapes in oils. Active in several local women’s clubs, including the 23 Study Club, the Music Club, and the Garden Club, Joyce put to use her artistic talents by compiling award-winning scrapbooks for these organizations. In addition to her service to her church and community, as a senior citizen, Joyce made handmade cards every month to give to the Friendly Door for individuals with birthdays that month. Later in her life, Joyce became interested in genealogy, compiling photographs and the history of both the Whitaker and the Rentschler families. She and husband John enjoyed traveling, particularly in Colorado and in Europe. They made trips to Burnley, England to visit The Holme, the fourteenth-century manor house of the Whitakers, and to Grombach, the German village from which the Rentschlers came.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe Whitaker and Hazel Meek Whitaker. She is survived by her beloved husband John Rentschler; daughter Dr. Carol Rentschler Lowe and her husband Phillip Lowe; daughter Cindy Rentschler Morgan and her husband Dr. David Morgan; grandson John Lowe and his wife Angela; granddaughter Mary Morgan; great- granddaughters Emma Lowe and Lillian Lowe; and her sister Patricia Whitaker Campbell, niece Linda Henry and nephew Robert Campbell.
