

He was 87 years old. He was born July 4, 1922 in Logan County, Illinois to Lawrence and Grace (Mammen) Short. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Robert L. (Bob) Short, his first wife, Jeanette (Tinky) Van Horn Short, his second wife, Joyce L. Givens Short, and three brothers.
Lowell joined the Army Air Corps in August of 1941 and was a veteran of World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He was proud of his country and loved his friends and family. After serving 9 years in the Army Air Corps as a flight engineer on B-25’s he joined the Air Force Reserve where he served for 26 years as a master flight engineer on C-130’s stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas. While in the reserves, he also worked civil service in Fort Worth at General Dynamics on the F-16 project. In the early to mid 70’s, he was recruited to the Seattle Washington Boeing Aero Space plant to the quality control unit for the E-4 Project, Air Force One and the air command fleet, for which he received numerous Department of Defense commendations.
Mr. Short is survived by one son, James L. Short of Wichita Falls; one daughter, Suzy Short Powell of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; brother, Jim of Atlanta, Illinois, two sisters, Mary Smith and Sue Van Horn, both of Atlanta, Illinois; his cousin, tinkering buddy and best friend, Robert Wilcox; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Highland Cemetery Pavilion, with Masonic rites and full Military Honors. Arrangements are entrusted to Dutton Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at Friday, April 2, 2010 from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at Dutton Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Hospice of Wichita Falls or Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital.
