On Friday, June 11, 2010, our beloved Bodie was called from his earthly home. To say that he will be missed is an understatement. Bodie Bryant was the Will Rogers of Iowa Park; he never met a stranger.
Bodie was born on February 12, 1963. He was active in Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Early in life he developed a great love for the outdoors. He played Pee Wee Football, baseball, and then played football in Jr. High and High School. He was also an avid golfer. When he had to be serious, he could be, but it was just more his style to be a cut-up. He could find humor in the direst of situations.
He graduated from Iowa Park High School in 1981, having 12 years of perfect attendance. He moved to Abilene in the fall of 1981 where he attended Abilene Christian University. He was the first athlete to put Iowa Park on the map for power lifting. In 1985, while a Sr. at ACU, he qualified and won the National Collegiate Weightlifting Meet in West Point, NY, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Track Meet in Los Angeles, CA. He graduated from ACU in 1985 with a degree in Business and Industrial Management.
Even with his degree, he was never one to be confined to an indoor job. He grew up around the oil fields and had roughnecked during the summers and school breaks since he had been in Jr. High. Oil ran through his veins. He worked the fields regardless of the weather. In 1987, he went into business for himself and then partnered with his dad. The two men became the best of friends, not just father and son.
On June 26, 2004, Bodie met the woman who was to become the true love of his life: Toni Wolfe. For the next 6 years, they were inseparable. She worked the fields with him and was his constant companion. He was never happier than when she was by his side. They both loved watching the NHRA races and took every opportunity to travel to them. They became very good friends with several of the drivers and spoke on a daily basis.
Bodie was very involved in the lives of his nephew and niece and attended as many of their activities as he could. He was a constant encouragement to them both.
Bodie was preceded in Death by his paternal grandparents, William and Caroline Brandt of Edgar, Wisconsin, and his daughter, Sierra Elizabeth Brandt, of Merkel, Texas. He is survived by the love and joy of his life, Toni Gaye, his mother and father, Ann and Marvin Brandt, his sister and brother-in-law, Vanessa & Rob McNary, and his nephew and niece, Cole and Shawna McNary, and maternal grandparents, Jack and Bessie Vestal, all of Iowa Park, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and more friends than could ever be mentioned.
The family will receive friends at the Dutton Funeral Home Chapel in Iowa Park from 6 - 8 pm on Tuesday night with services set for 10 am Wednesday morning at the Iowa Park Church of Christ. Services are under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home of Iowa Park.
