

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Faith Baptist Church of Iowa Park with Dr. Ted Spear and Rev. Glen Pearce officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.
Richard was born September 30, 1955 in Bowie, Texas to Horace Carlton and Shirley Donley Hicks. He moved to Iowa Park at the age of two. He was a graduate of Iowa Park Schools. He and Kathy Withrow were married July 30, 1978 in Iowa Park.
While attending high school he was a member of the band, played football and was very active in scouting. After completion of high school he graduated Aero Tech Institute and attended Vernon Regional College.
He worked wheat harvest for several summers, traveling from Texas to Oklahoma, Kansas and Colorado. From 1970-1975 he worked for John B. Barbour Trucking Company. From 1975-2011 he worked for Sealed Air (Cryovac Division) holding various positions within the company.
He was a past member of the Wichita County Young Farmers, Boy Scouts of America and the United Way. He was chosen citizen of the year in 1996 at the Chamber of Commerce Banquet. He was currently a member of the Sons of the Confederacy and North Texas Genealogical Association, where he served as treasurer. He enjoyed researching his family history.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Iowa Park. He and his family would take their vacations to go to sister churches (building trips) to help aid in their need along with other members of churches.
After becoming father to two boys he became re-introduced to scouting. He served as Cub Master all the way thru to Troop Master. He also received many awards for holding these positions. Throughout those years he was also coach and assistant coach for his son’s baseball, basketball and soccer teams. He loved working with kids and was always willing to lend a hand. He touched the hearts of many.
He enjoyed doing locksmithing, beekeeping, computers, and collecting coins, stamps, and Pez. He and Kathy loved to travel outside the U.S. They have seen many wonderful sites.
In 1999 he and Kathy started Kathy’s Bakery and Deli. In 2009 they opened the Wedding and Event Planning and in 2010 they moved Kathy’s Bakery and Party into their new location next to Kathy’s Deli. He was Kathy’s “right-hand-man”, enjoying working alongside her. He will be truly missed.
His parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Iowa Park; sons Jered Hicks and fiancé Kimberly Miller of Iowa Park, Jeremy Hicks of Iowa Park; brother, Michael Hicks and wife, Diane of Iowa Park; sister, Alisa Devenport and husband, Charles of Lindale, Texas; nieces and nephews, Dustin Hicks, Lauren, Ross and Nolan Devenport; father-in-law, Robert Withrow and wife, Jean of Burkburnett, Texas; brothers-in-law, Robert Withrow, Jr. and wife, Susan of Wichita Falls, Texas and Steven Withrow and wife, Linda of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2011 at Dutton Funeral Home of Iowa Park, Texas.
