Robert E. Wilcox, 95, of Iowa Park, Texas, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Faith Baptist Church of Iowa Park, with Dr. Darrell Monday, Pastor Josh Fields and Pastor Tim Franks officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
Robert was born on March 10, 1929, to the late Bernice and F.N. Wilcox. On July 11, 1959, he married the love of his life, Jan. Jan preceded him in death on May 8, 2018.
Robert lived a long and fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
For over 70 years, Wilcox was "The Voice of the Hawks" dedicating his time and passion to the kids and town of Iowa Park. His unmistakable voice echoed through the stadium on Friday nights, bringing excitement, tradition, and a sense of home to generations of Hawk fans. In 2022 Wilcox had the honor of being inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame.
Wilcox wasn’t just a PA announcer—he was a pillar of his community and a man who loved Iowa Park and its people. After retiring from 30 years with the post office, he spent the next 20 plus years delivering meals on wheels to the "old folks" as he would so respectfully say.
Robert taught 5th and 6th grade Sunday school for many years. Although he loved making a difference in the lives of athletes, he spoke many times of running into his past Sunday school students, then grown, who heard his, ever so unique, voice from a distance and made a point to come find Mr. Wilcox to tell him what an impact he made in their lives. He would say their eternity meant more than any football game. He loved his Heavenly Father and never missed a moment to share that. We rest in knowing he is now in His presence.
Robert is survived by his daughter Vanessa Walker, cousins Julie Dietrichson and husband David and Emily Copeland, and long-time friends/caregivers, Paul and Theresa Arrington and Jackie Gholson. He will also be missed by numerous additional family members and a host of Hawk fans he adored like family.
Funeral service attendees are invited to wear Hawk attire in honor of Mr. Wilcox and his unwavering dedication to the Iowa Park Hawks.
