The spirit we came to know as Val spent his childhood in Iowa Park, Texas, but he split that scene for Dallas in the early-‘70s. Val’s early adulthood was spent as a generalist, learning everything he could about everything—whether working as a maintenance man at an apartment complex or selling blue jeans for the mob. Val would go on to develop new technology for the medical field with his own company Reaves Research before joining his brother at M&A Technology where he would spend over three decades developing computer systems for education, the Postal Service, military defense and countless other institutions. Val is admired as much for his enduring brilliance as he is for his kindness and generosity, teaching us that the solution is always simpler than the problem.
Val is preceded in death by his parents, Mauryne Lofland and Ted Overbey; his brother, Mike Overbey and his uncle, Bill Overby.
Val is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mrs. Susan Overbey; his sister, Teddy Jones, and her husband, J.B.; his sons, David Fletcher and Nick Lofland Overbey; his daughters, Bebe Foster-Rone and Lindsey Noel and his grandchildren, Bree Foster, Flynn David Overbey and Nathaniel Reaves Shepard.
In lieu of flowers, vote your conscience, but send flowers if you wish because he loved flowers too.
The service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 23, in the Highland Cemetery Pavilion, 862 Rogers Rd., Iowa Park, Texas 76367.
