He was born on December 6, 1932, to Jessie and Letha Nelson Smith in Solo Missouri. Wallace, known as Wally, was the youngest of seven children. After Wally’s father left the family at a young age, his mother brought the family back to Arkansas where they lived in the Piney Community with his grandparents, John, and Hattie Nelson. Wallace grew up in Arkansas and served in the Air Force. He then had a lifetime career of working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and ATT, from which he retired. While working as a telephone technician, Wally was called to Iowa Park to repair the telephone of Doris Dozier and it was love at first sight. On December 2, 1971, two families joined together and became one. Wallace was an amazing father to all his children.

Wally was known as ” Pop Pop” to twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
Wally leaves behind, a legacy of faith in Jesus Christ. He raised all his children to know the importance of knowing Jesus. Everybody that knew Wally would agree that he followed the Great Commandment of Love thy Neighbor. Wally and his wife, Doris, were charter members of Lakeview Church of God in Iowa Park and faithfully served there until their health prohibited them from attending regularly.
Wally was preceded in death by his mother, his three brothers, Irvin, Warren, and Viryl, and his sisters, Vesta, Viola, and Delma.
