Charles Leigh Trevathan, 96, of Columbia, SC went home to be with the Lord on November 3, 2019 at Parkridge Hospital-Prisma Hospice. He was born on April 26, 1923 in Columbia, SC; the son of William Gaston Trevathan Sr. and Miriam Ogg Trevathan.
He left Columbia High School to join the Air Force along with his brothers; Ernest Kay (Marine Air Corp), and William Gaston Jr. (Army) in World War II. Not long after his discharge in 1946, he was able to finish his education. He married his sweetheart of sixty-seven years Betty Stocker Trevathan.
Charles worked in the family business started by his parents in 1908, Columbia Tent and Awing which provided a livelihood for almost four generations. He was a lifelong member of Main Street United Methodist Church. He was active in the AB Ferguson Sunday School Class, and The Men’s Prayer Breakfast. In his early years he was a Boy Scout leader, worked in the church office, and Santa Claus at the Christmas Socials. Charles was known for a great sense of humor. He said that there was enough sadness in the world, he would rather laugh than cry. His children remember his family camping adventures and his “Rock Hounding” expeditions. He was a hard worker in the family business and at anything thing he would set his mind to. His motto was “If it’s a job worth doing, it’s worth doing right”, and “always leave things better than how you found it.” He had a great love for his Lord and Savior and sought to demonstrate His love and forgiveness to his children and all. He always insisted that saying “good-bye” was to final, you had to say, “See you later alligator” in return of course, “after while crocodile.” And for certain, we will see you later gator. We love you Dad. We will miss you.
He was predeceased by his wife Betty Stocker Trevathan and his siblings; Cecil Edgerton Trevathan, William Gaston Trevathan Jr., Earnest Kay Trevathan (his twin brother), and Beverly Trevathan (Ray) Williams.
Charles leaves behind his children; Susan Elaine Trevathan Irmo, SC, Cheryl Trevathan Goldson Columbia, SC, Larry Carl Trevathan, Columbia, SC, Kristy Trevathan Emanuel (Aaron) Lexington, SC.
He also leaves a legacy of grandchildren; Jeremiah Goldson, Taylor Leigh Trevathan, Ryan Trevathan (Britney), Reid Trevathan, Rachel Trevathan and many nieces and nephews.
