Allen Crosby Livingston, Sr., 92, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023. He was born in Orlando, FL, the youngest of six, to William “Bill” Rufus Livingston and Ruth Crosby Livingston. Moving to South Carolina shortly after, he spent his early childhood in Batesburg-Leesville and his high school years in the town of Ninety-six. In 1949, he was in the first class of James F. Byrnes Scholarship recipients to attend Clemson University earning his BS in textile management.
In his senior year at Clemson, Crosby met the love of his life on a blind date and later married Rose Anne (Johnson) Livingston from Columbia, SC. During their years together, Crosby and Rose Anne were most fond of traveling and living in many places around the world. They spent 67 years together before her passing in August of 2021.
Commissioned in 1954 and retired in 1981 from the U.S. Army with a distinguished career reflected in his numerous decorations and commendations, Colonel Livingston became the first non-flag officer to be awarded the distinguished Defense Superior Service Medal. Among this and many other distinctions, he was awarded the Legion of Merit twice, served two tours in Korea, one in Germany, one tour in Vietnam, and was stationed at the Pentagon during the late 60s. He went on to further his military education at Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 1969. From there he went on to serve as Commanding Officer at installations in St. Louis, Missouri and Burlington, Iowa. He was very proud and grateful for the opportunity to serve his country that he loved so much.
After his retirement from the military, he went on to work in the private sector. He was very active in his church and the Knights of Columbus, where he also served as treasurer.
A devoted and loving father, he leaves behind four children, Teresa R. Atkins (Crawford), A. Crosby Livingston, Jr., DMD (Bonnie), Lisa A. Hayes, Flynn T. Livingston (Amee); nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Joseph Catholic Church on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 11:30 a.m., with visitation in Donor Hall one hour prior from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.. Burial with full military honors will be held in Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
