

Memorial Service for Andrew “Andy” Douglas Schmidt, 19, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, SC. The family will receive friends following the service. Andy passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015.
Born in Trenton, NJ, he was the son of Joseph “Jay” Schmidt, Jr. and Pamela Foutty Schmidt. Andy was a 2014 graduate of Dutch Fork High School where he was an honor student and on the Robotics Team #1293-Pandamaniacs, for whom he mentored following his graduation. He was a flutist in the Silver Spirit Marching and Concert Band. Andy was attending Midlands Technical College on a full scholarship with Michelin Tire Corporation. He was employed part-time at Michelin while attending school and also worked for Imports Parts Plus in Irmo. Andy was proud of his prize Volkswagen Beetles and was currently working on two additional Beetles as well as helping others work on their vehicles. Andy was a true friend to those who knew him and was always putting their needs before his own. He had an affection for music of all genres but especially Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Pink Floyd and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
In addition to his parents, Jay and Pamela, he is survived by his sister, Erica Schmidt; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Carol Schmidt; maternal grandparents, Paul and Barbara Foutty; step-mother, Lisa Schmidt; step-brothers, Shawn and Eric Korch. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Anna Lee; several aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Lexington-Richland School District 5 Robotics Team #1293-Pandamaniacs so they may continue in his honor, P.O. Box 2716, Irmo, SC 29063.
