COLUMBIA - Ann was called home to be with her LORD and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 28, 2021, a week before Easter. Because of her faith in Jesus, and his death and resurrection on Easter morning, she was raised to eternal life, leaving behind the darkness and struggles of this world.
Born August 23, 1949 in Danville, VA, she was a daughter of the late Cecil Clark Garrett, Jr. and Grace Broaddus Irby Garrett. She graduated with Associate’s degrees from Wingate College and Midlands Technical College. She worked as a Dental Assistant for Dr. Charles Bauknight and Dr. Manly Hutchinson III. Ann was a gentle soul with love to God and service to her neighbor. She was a devoted wife, excellent mother, and loved to spoil her grandchildren. She was a loving sister and friend to all. Ann was a member of Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her husband, W. Wesley Porterfield, Jr. of Columbia, SC; daughters, Melissa Porterfield (Chip Crane) of Valdosta, GA, and Susan Pardee (C.R.) of Columbia, SC; brother, Cecil Clark Garrett III (Judy) of Morrisville, NC; sister, Katherine “Kay” Whitfield of Hendersonville, NC; and three grandchildren, Charles, Grace, and Anna Pardee.
A funeral service for Ann Garrett Porterfield, 71, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2021 at Chapin Presbyterian Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery.
