Anne Lesher Snipes

Growing up, Anne loved working in her family’s grocery store and developed a keen sense for numbers and business at an early age. After graduating from Waycross High School in 1950, she received an Associates Degree in Business from the University of Georgia. Anne worked for many years as a Claims Representative for the Social Security Administration in Waycross, Georgia and later in Jacksonville, Florida. It was here, in 1965, that a co-worker decided to introduce her to his eligible bachelor cousin who was living at the time in Greensboro, NC. She met Max Snipes soon after and married him in August of 1966. They were recently able to celebrate their sixtieth wedding anniversary in August of 2026. Max and Anne lived in Raleigh, NC, for the first years of marriage and relocated to Columbia in 1969. After her first child was born, Anne was a homemaker and enjoyed volunteering in the schools and with several local non-profits. She also enjoyed sponsoring a 4H Club and being part of the Seven Oaks Homemakers Club. Faith in Christ, Bible reading, hymns, and church attendance were part of Anne’s life from her earliest memory. Anne was a long-time member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church and enjoyed a deep connection with the ladies of her Faith Sunday School class for many years. She was also active in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) and led many yearly drives to collect items for those in need. Anne was soft spoken and known for her kind and gentle nature; she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Anne is survived by her husband Max Snipes of the home, daughter Susan Snipes Templeton (Bert) of Columbia, son William Snipes of Travelers Rest, and grandsons Dr. Clark Templeton of Livermore, CA, Drs. David Templeton (Jessica) of Lexington, KY, and Matthew Templeton of Knoxville, TN.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the kind and compassionate staff of Amedisys Hospice, who provided excellent care for Anne in the final days of her life.

Visitation will be held at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel on Thursday, September 17, from 10:00-10:45 a.m. with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Burke Memorial Cemetery in Morganton, NC.

Memorial gifts may be given to Sharing God’s Love in Irmo, SC.
