Irmo, South Carolina – Annette B. Gore passed away on July 17, 2022 and went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 91 years. Born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on July 8, 1931 to William Hoyt Berrier and Louise Kearse Berrier, she moved to Columbia as a child with her family when her dad was transferred with the Southern Railroad. She graduated from Columbia High School and soon met the man she would marry, D.N. “Bud” Gore. They were married for 52 years until his death in 2002. After high school, she began a career working in administration for various organizations such as the telephone company, Travelers Insurance, Richland County Family Court, and later as a legal secretary and transcriber. In 1977, she began Gore Court Reporting with her husband and continued the business until she retired over thirty years later. Her quality work and dependability recording and transcribing depositions, hearings, and conferences were well known throughout the Columbia legal community and across the state as many law firms and government agencies were clients of the business. Annette was ahead of her time as a career woman who also took care of her children and home. In her familial and entrepreneurial spirit, she ran the business from home so that she could also be there for her children after school and continue to cook meals and take care of the family. As a devoted wife and mother, she loved and supported her family, raising four children, and helping take care of her grandchild and great-grandchildren. She was truly a woman who exemplified Proverbs 31.
The focus of her life was Jesus Christ and living by His Word. She was also a diligent student of the Bible. She was baptized into Christ as a teenager and was a member then of Pope Street Church of Christ in downtown Columbia, which is now St. Andrews Road Church of Christ, where she was still a member at the time of her death. She was very active in church through her life, serving as a children’s Bible class teacher, inviting members and visitors to the family home for meals and fellowships, and reaching out to individuals to encourage and study the Bible with them. Serving the saints (Hebrews 6:10) was a big part of who she was and she had an extraordinary heart of compassion and self-sacrifice for others.
Surviving are her children, Eric B. Gore of Columbia; Vivian Gore Stansell of Irmo; Randolph N. Gore of Irmo; and Gary Hoyt Gore of Columbia; as well as a granddaughter, Sinclare Brickle; great-grandchildren, Jessamine Stansell and Kirsten Brickle. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Doras “Bud” Napoleon Gore, Jr.; an infant son, Doras “Trey” Napoleon Gore III; two brothers, Jack Berrier and Jimmy Berrier; three sisters, Marilyn Berrier Joye, Edythe Berrier Jones, and Jannette Berrier Robinson, who was her twin.
The memorial service and life celebration of Annette will be held at Dunbar Funeral Home in Irmo, 7600 Woodrow Street, on Monday, July 25, 2022 at 7:00 pm with visitation and fellowship after the service. Memorial donations may be made to: Church of Christ USC Ministry, 720 Longtown Road, Columbia, SC 29229.
