

After graduating from Orangeburg High School in 1965, Barbara earned a BS degree from the University of Louisville in Kentucky. She later earned a Masters degree from the University of South Carolina. She served as principal at Garden City Christian School in Orangeburg. She later taught English in Lexington School District One at Lexington Middle School and Lexington High School. Barbara retired from the South Carolina Department of Education.
Barbara was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church. She was an avid Gamecock fan. She loved the beach, reading novels, and writing poetry. She loved shagging to beach music.
Barbara was the beloved mother of Phillip Warren Clapp (Josie) and Ashley Clapp Kirchner. She was very proud of her grandchildren Nicholas Kirchner, Johnna West (Ryan), Logan Clapp, and Olivia Clapp. Barbara is also survived her two sisters, Sylvia Clyburn and Phyllis Maier (Charles). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and two very special friends, Carly Gayle Harbold and Patti Combs.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Ted Clyburn.
There will be a Celebration of Life at a later time.
