Benjamin McClain Elder

Mr. Elder passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023. Born in Dallas, Texas, he was the son of the late McClain Henry Elder and Mildred Simmons Elder. For 4 years, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a graduate of the University of Florida where he received his degree in Electrical Engineering. He was later employed by Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. Benjamin was a member of Crossroads Church in Columbia. Reading was his passion, especially reading the Bible and C.H. Spurgeon, which encouraged him as his earthly days came to an end.

Surviving are his wife, Karen Pratt Elder; son, Matthew Brian Elder; daughter, Julie Elder Gould (James); seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa Ann Elder.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads Church, 2723 Ashland Road, Columbia, SC 29210.
