With a heavy heart, we announce that our mother Brenda Epperson passed away on March 12, 2025. Family members were with her that day and held her hands as she transitioned. She was a loving mother, grandmother, spouse, and friend.
Her greatest accomplishments and joys in her 81 years were her children, Brian, Michele (and Phil), and Mark. Her grandchildren Amber (and Adam), Matt (and Keri with Jackie and Annie), Kenzie (and Jake), Jesse (and Bryce), and Amanda follow.
Mom made herself available to support her children and grandchildren at basketball games, swimming matches, sports and journalism banquets, dance recitals and competitions, Scout camps, and cheer dance events. She was the "Cool Mom" and "Cool Grandma" in our lives.
She especially enjoyed decorating her home for Christmas with bright lights, garlands, homemade goodies, and thoughtfully selected gifts. Her passion for gardening was evident in her stunning flowering shrubs, returning perennials, and freshly planted annuals. Sharing cuttings and divided perennials brought her joy, and her neighbors appreciated her green thumb.
Our mother enjoyed a successful career in sales, beginning with radio advertising in Madison, IN, and newspaper and specialty advertising in Columbia, SC. In the 1970s, she joined her mother, Betty Wilkerson, in ownership of The Betty-Brenda Shop clothing store in our Indiana hometown. She instilled the Midwestern work ethic in all of us. "We don't play until the chores are done" served us well as we advanced from childhood to adulthood.
Mom was a terrific dancer. She and our stepfather, Bob Epperson, would blaze across the dance floor performing the South Carolina state dance, "The Shag." They were striking dancers together and fun to watch.
Dogs remain an essential part of our family life. Most recently, Lexi, a fun-loving Shih Tzu, was her furry companion and roommate. We take comfort in knowing that many family dogs were waiting to greet her at the Rainbow Bridge.
Brenda is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Betty Wilkerson, her ex-husband, Jerry Horine, and our stepfather, Bob Epperson. It brings comfort to know she is reunited with her mother, whom she missed greatly.
At her request, her ashes will be distributed by immediate family members, with no formal services to follow.
