LEXINGTON– A memorial service for Candace Diane Bartman, Ph.D., age 70, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, 1205 Old Cherokee Road, Lexington, SC, 29072. The Reverends Jeff Kersey and Faye Stephens will officiate the service. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, 7600 Woodrow Street, Irmo, SC, 29063. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Candace passed away at home on Thursday, August 16, 2018 following a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Morehouse, Ph.D.; son, Todd Bartman (spouse Pam); step-daughter, Katy Morehouse (spouse Emile Labuschagne); and five grandchildren, Abby, Henry, Connor, Harrison, and Sophie.
Candace grew up in Barrington, Rhode Island, and always kept a place in her heart for New England. She made Lexington her home in 1991.
Candace earned her B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. She worked many years designing mass spectrometer systems for hazardous waste facilities and holds several patents as a result of this work. Candace formed Bartman Crystal with her son, Todd, which they operated for ten plus years.
Candace was fond of making and building things. She enjoyed cooking, needlework and photography; creating stained glass art; building ship models; and weaving Nantucket Light baskets. She reveled in traveling and entertaining. Candace was the initiator and a founder of Cancer Support at Mt. Horeb.
