Carl Byron Moorer

A funeral service for Carl Byron Moorer, 98, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Dunbar Funeral Home Devine Street Chapel, 3926 Devine Street, Columbia, S.C., 29205. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2022.

Mr. Moorer passed Thursday, December 15, 2022. Born in Columbia, SC, he was a son of William Carl Moorer (dec.) and Nonie Narcissus Moorer (dec.).

Carl served and retired as Master Sergeant in the United States Marines where he served in Okinawa, Korea, and fought in the Pacific Theatre during WWII including the Battle of Iwo Jima. Following his military career, Carl worked for and retired from the United States Postal Service.

Apart from his family, Carl loved gardening, and took pride in his own garden.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Alma Moorer; and a daughter, Nonie E. Tucker.

Surviving are his daughter, Constance “Connie” Jones (Alan); sons, Frank Moorer (Shireen), Ralph Moorer (Glenda); grandchildren, Zachary Jones, Lacy Carbone, Brad Moorer, Greg Moorer, Madeline Moorer; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Annie Ruth Cooper.
