IRMO - Carolyn Kulinski, 82, of Irmo, South Carolina passed away on May 13, 2024 at the Lowman Home in White Rock. She was in the care of the Lutheran Hospice of the Midlands. Born on October 23, 1941, she was one of eight children born to the late Leona and Philip Kulinski of Baltimore, MD.
Carolyn graduated from Holy Rosary and Patterson Park High School, excelling in sports, especially basketball. After being in the work force with the Social Security Administration for several years, she decided she wanted to “see the world”, joining the United States Navy in 1963. That tour of duty brought her to San Diego where she remained throughout her adult life. After active duty, she was a member of the USNR and later joined the California National Guard, retiring as CWO3. Carolyn also worked for and retired from the San Diego Parks and Recreation Department.
While in California, she maintained her love of sports by being a season ticket holder to all Padres games, and as a member of the 500 Bowling League. In her later years, Carolyn decided she wanted to be closer to her family on the East Coast. Moving to Irmo in the summer of 2018, she soon found her niche bowling with the Tuesday and Friday morning leagues at Anchor Lanes in Irmo.
She was predeceased by her mother and father; brother, Philip; and older sister Patricia. Carolyn is survived by her sisters, Geraldine Gingco, Leona Spence, Charlene Switala, Nancy Kulinski; her brother, Donald Kulinski; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff members at SC Oncology, Cana Unit at Lowman Home, and Lutheran Hospice of the Midlands.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Carolyn Kulinksi’s name to the following charities: Multiple Myeloma Research c/o SC Oncology, 168 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia, SC 29210 or St. Jude’s Hospital for Children, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
