Carroll "Larry" Moseley, 76, entered his heavenly home on Thursday, December 14th, 2023. He was devoted husband, wonderful father, and loving Papa, who wanted nothing more than to see his kids and grandkids love life and see good days (1 Peter 3:10). His work is done and he is finally reunited with his daughter, Angela.
Larry was born in Columbia, SC, on October 7th, 1947, to Carroll and Pat Moseley. Attending Lower Richland High School, Larry excelled in school and sports. While being class president, he was a natural southpaw pitcher and football player, most notably remembered as the star running back for Mooney Player's State Runner-up Diamond Hornets. 60 years ago, being the star had its perks, when he caught the eye of the Miss Hornet's Nest, who five years later became his wife.
After graduating the University of South Carolina, Larry opened multiple businesses throughout the years, but it wasn't until he met a local jeweler by the name of Benny Holbrooks, did he find his true calling. Benny mentored Larry and even partnered with him on a couple of stores, until it was time for Larry to start his own Legacy, and in 1977 he opened Moseley's Jewelers. 46 years later, his legacy is still going strong with multiple locations, as he passed the torch to his two sons.
Larry had a contagious smile, larger than life personality, and was a story teller of immense proportions. Never meeting a stranger, he truly loved life. In the last twenty years, Larry struggled with multiple medical issues, from cancer to blood disorders, and multiple heart attacks, yet nothing would slow his zest for life and sharing the gospel. He knew the reason why God saw him through all of these trials was that his work for the Lord was not done. His main goal in his remaining years became clear which was to show Jesus to all that he came in contact with. From the waitress, to the guy pumping gas right next to him, all he waited for was eye contact, then he was off to the races. In a matter of moments he figured out how they were connected and he would show them "Jesus", leaving the other person feeling better. Better about themselves, better about their circumstances, always left knowing they are loved. He just wanted to remind each of us that we are "sons and daughters" of the most high and we are valued.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jerri Moseley, daughter Amanda Laney (Bryan), sons, John Moseley (Tavia), Jeremy Moseley (Heather), five grandchildren, Emalee, Shea, Graydon, Carter, Rhett, and sister Patti Heady (Late Gary Heady) and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Chapin Baptist Church on Monday, December 18th, 2023 at 4:00pm. Please join the family for hors d'oeuvres and popcorn in Larry's honor immediately following the Ceremony.
