Adored wife and mother, Charlotte Pearson Wilder, passed away on Sunday, August 19th, 2018 due to complications from heart failure. She is survived by her husband, Ron Wilder; daughter, Erika Watts (spouse Frankie); daughter, Rachel Walters (spouse Ash); son, David Wilder, and two grandchildren, Holden Watts (13) and Olivia Watts (11). Charlotte was born and grew up in Houston, Texas, and always kept a place in her heart for the Lone Star state and her loved ones there. After supporting her husband through graduate school at Vanderbilt University, she made Columbia her home in 1970. She worked early on in her career as a second grade elementary school teacher at Irmo Elementary. After receiving her masters in library science from the University of South Carolina, she served many years as the head librarian at Irmo High School library. While there, Charlotte transitioned the library from card catalogue to digital. She was instrumental in designing the library addition and the high school's first website in the early 1990's. She enjoyed her service with the S.C. Association of School Librarians and spending time with colleagues.
Charlotte was an out of this world cook. She loved visiting gardens, bird watching; reading; and homemaking. When her children were younger, Charlotte enjoyed playing bridge at regular neighborhood and university bridge playing gatherings. She reveled in traveling the nation. She especially enjoyed planning and taking long summer trips camping with family in the pop-up camper. Above all, Charlotte always experienced the most joy caring for and spending time with her family, children, and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25th, 2018 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, 7600 Woodrow Street, Irmo, SC, 29063. There will be a casual visitation for family and friends immediately following, also at the Dunbar Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her grandson's honor to the CHARGE Syndrome foundation, www.chargesyndrome.org
