COLUMBIA - Christine Wingard White, 93, passed away on January 18, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born in Columbia, SC and was the daughter of the late Lawrence B. and Allie Shealy Wingard. She was the widow of Robert C. White. Ms. White was resident of the Columbia Presbyterian Community.
After twenty-five years of service, Ms. White retired from the Federal Land Bank in 1987 where she worked as a Key Punch Operator.
Ms. White was a lifelong active member of Reformation Lutheran Church, where she served on the Church Council, was a member of the Stewardship Committee, and the Wednesday Bible Study Group. She most enjoyed the time she spent helping to prepare meals in the Church’s kitchen, and the annual beach trip. Ms. White was also a member of the Lutheran Church Women (LCW).
In addition to her parents and her husband, Ms. White was predeceased by her brothers, Laymon B. Wingard, Howard S. Wingard; sister, Amelia W. Gardner; granddaughter, Shannon J. Tate; and great-grandson, Robert W. Tate. She is survived by her children, Robert (Chrissy) White, Joye (Randy) Tate and Ray (Cary) White; grandsons, Christopher (Kathy) White, Chip (Kristie) Tate; granddaughters, Kathryn (David) Day, Caroline (Taylor) Kearns; great-granddaughters, Hannah and Sarah Day; and great-grandson Raylon Tate; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Columbia Presbyterian Community for their compassionate care during Ms. White’s time there.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2021 in Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, SC. Her nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
