COLUMBIA - Daniel “Dan” Vee Burke, 71, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 1, 2023 surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was a son of Joseph Sylvester Burke and Geneva (Coen) Burke. He worked as a clerk for the US Postal Service.
Dan was an avid organist, loved to play cards with his family and friends, and enjoyed golfing and fishing in his spare time. He was the USC softball team’s biggest fan and held season tickets since he moved to Columbia thirteen years ago. His claim to fame was throwing out the first pitch at a USC softball game in May 2022. Each year, he attended the Women’s College World Series with his daughter, Melinda. They shared some of their best memories there.
Surviving are his daughter, Jennifer (Burke) Lambert; and his grandsons, Levi and Lucas, “the boys”.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Melinda Burke; and his brothers, Phil and Dave Burke.
The family wishes to thank Cole for all the comfort and laughs that she shared with him in their absence; she was a loyal friend who he loved dearly.
