David was a dear friend and mentor.  He was the first person to reach out to help me when I first got involved in Adult Education in 1989.  He was someone you could trust and count on.  I always looked forward to our Monday morning conversations in the fall when we would  analyze the pros and cons of Clemson Tiger Football.

I am one of David's cousins.  I have not seen David in many years but that does not diminish the fond memories my brother Rodney and I have of summers on the farm.   We were the City cousins and would visit almost every summer.  Aunt Elizabeth and Uncle LeRoy could not have been nicer and more accommodating whenever we invaded their lives.  David and his sisters would entertain us with all sorts of farm stuff (pigs and mules were at the top of the list) that must have bored them to tears but was fascinating to us.   David was always kind and patient with us.   I saw David a few times as a young adult and really enjoyed catching up.  

My condolences to all of David's family.  Hearing about David's passing was very sad news.



Susan, It is so difficult to realize David has left us.  Memories in church, bible school and joining together after a revival message.  School together, college roommates, weddings and so much more as we grew up together.  David was always the competitor especially in our tennis workouts.

My prayers for your healing and comfort in his memories.

I had not seen David in years, but yesterday when my sister, Lucile, informed me of his passing, a flood of memories washed over me.  Although we were in the same grade at Mayewood, David was almost a year older than me. With his birthday being November 7th in ‘48, and mine being the 26th of October in ‘49, we were respectively the oldest and youngest members of our class. To me David was sort of my hero. He was an outstanding athlete and always in the Top 5 or Top 10 students whenever the six week grades were posted. I am pretty sure he was also the first lefty I knew.

When my parents transferred my siblings and me to Thomas Sumter Academy, David and I sort of lost touch. I saw him a couple of times in the early seventies, but then we sort of faded into our own life spaces.  The two things I have never forgotten about David were his kindness and his smile. Please know that  you are all in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this grieving process.

David was a gentleman and scholar!  

I got to know David in the late 1980's through our connection in adult education, which was a passion for him.  My favorite memory of David was that he and I taught a shag class in Columbia for a group going on a cruise.   It was so fun as he was the consummate professional and loved the dance!   I also enjoyed talking about adult education with him as I loved that vocation, also.  

The world is a better place because of people like David.

I was saddened to hear of David’s passing. Having worked with him in Adult Education from the state level to the local
level, I have many fond memories of him. David was my first teacher/mentor in the Adult Ed world and because of him I learned so much and had the best job of a lifetime. I will never forget him and will be praying for you as you go through this difficult time. God bless you!

I am 63 and I have known David my entire life.  His father and mother were very active at Shiloh United Methodist Church.
David roomed with brother Curtis at Clemson.
He cared about people and especially his students. Our State education system benefited from his efforts to help students and the system of Public Education.

I’m so saddened to hear about David’s passing.  I worked at the  Newberry Adult Education Center under him after I retired from teaching in 2004. I can honestly say that he was one of the best bosses I ever had the pleasure to work with. He treated all the staff and students there with kindness and respect.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

As a local adult education program director, David Green was the leader of a program that served Newberry County residence well.  He cared for the people of Newberry County, and for his staff in the program. He had a great relationship with the staff he oversaw, and I could tell they enjoyed working with him. 

Over the decade that I worked with David, he gave me advice on proper food to eat, what time of day it was best to eat certain food, and how to appropriately exercise.   David was a dedicated weight lifter and runner.

I was ever thankful for David’s professional support. He had to be the best boss I ever had. My nine years under his leadership made my retirement special. He gave me the opportunity to continue teaching but in a different environment and to a different audience. He was one of a kind and a true blessing to those whose lives he changed, both students and teachers. May he rest in peace. May all his loved ones find God’s peace and comfort. 

I am so sorry to hear about David, he was a good person. We work together in Adult Education.  You have my deepest sympathy.
