Funeral Service for Dennis Ray Powell, 69, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at New Life Baptist Church with burial at 3:00 p.m. in Carolina Memorial Park, Charleston, SC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo.
Dennis passed away Sunday, November 1, 2015. Born in Vallejo, CA, he was a son of the late Wesley William and Esther Wallace Powell. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church and taught Sunday School. He led a Bible Study at the Irmo Fire Department. Dennis served in the US Navy and retired as a Chief from the US Navy Reserve. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol W. Powell; daughters, Amy Powell Shirley (David), Jennifer Powell Storey (Rob); grandchildren, Nathan Shirley, Ashton Storey, Declan Storey, Camden Shirley, Josiah Storey, and Lincoln Mac Storey. He is also survived by five brothers and two sisters.
