

Born on June 10, 1950, in Columbus, Georgia, Don was the son of Hollis and Mary Pope. He grew up in Fort Gaines, Georgia, and went on to build a distinguished career in sales and management within the food distribution industry.
In 1969, Don met the love of his life, Dee Dee Money, in Columbus, GA. Their love story grew into 55 years of marriage, marked by devotion, partnership, and unwavering care. To family and friends, Don was known for his integrity, loyalty, and deep affection for those he loved. If you knew Don, you appreciated his unique sense of humor. Nothing brought him more joy than supporting his sons and grandchildren—whether in everyday life, sports, milestones, or celebrations, he was always their biggest supporter.
Don is survived by his wife, Dee Dee Money Pope; his sons, Clay (Gina) Pope and Andy (Holly) Pope; and his beloved grandchildren, Elliott, Ella, and Abram, who lovingly called him “GranDon.” He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John and Ken Pope; and his in-laws, James ‘Bub’ and Vivian Money.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, 7600 Woodrow Street, Irmo, SC 29063. A reception will follow the service.
