Born in West Tennessee, Doris then grew up in Ohio from age two. She was married to Russell Lang and later to Bennie Bugg. In the 1990s, Doris and Bennie moved to Tennessee and later to Florida. The last several years of Doris’ life were spent in South Carolina, where she became an avid USC Gamecock’s women’s basketball fan.
The majority of Doris’ career was serving various roles within the human resources department of the public utility company in Northern Ohio. After taking early retirement, Doris managed a medical office in Tennessee, commandeered many committees for their Florida retirement community, and worked retail at a bathing suit shop on Sanibel Island until nearly 80 years of age. Volunteer work for many charities was also a meaningful use of her time.
Traveling with her husband, sisters and brothers-in-law was a highlight during their retirement years. Her other most cherished time, undoubtedly, was time with her parents in their last years, as well as time with each of her four children (Ben, Kelly, Dennis, and Jeff (and their partners)), ten grandchildren (Ashley, Austin, McKayla, Eric, Alex, Brandon, Kendall, Bradley, Sydney, and Jeffery), and five great-grandchildren (Riley, Quinn, Jordan, Cameron, and Jaxson).
Doris’ legacy is one of strength, love, laughter, and fierce devotion to family and friends. Her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched in countless ways.
In lieu of flowers, mourners are encouraged to donate to their favorite charity.
A service at Fort Jackson National Cemetery (Columbia, SC) will be held at a date to be determined. Doris’ ashes will rest beside Bennie’s ashes. [Sign up below to be notified with updated service information.]
