Duane was born March 29, 1943 in McKeesport, PA, the son of Charles T. and Alice Mae Hollas Metzler. Affectionately known as “Pops” and “Mr. Fix-IT”, Duane was a dedicated family man and enjoyed spending time with his wife and sons. He was very active with his sons' Cub Scouts and Indian Guides as well as coaching baseball, basketball and football teams. When he wasn’t camping or fishing with his family and friends, he enjoyed woodworking and fixing things for anyone that needed his services. This hard work ethic was something he was proud to pass along to his children and grandchildren.
After high school, Duane began his career in welding where he retired as Welding Superintendent for Qualico Miscellaneous Inc. in Montgomery, AL.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Suzanne Donoghue Metzler, and his sister, Alice Phillips, affectionately known as Aunt Sis. Those left to cherish his memories include his sons, Michael Metzler and his wife, Bobbie, Keith Metzler, Dennis Metzler and his wife Kelly; grandchildren, Jonathan Metzler and his wife Beth, Joshua Metzler, Kayla Metzler, Brynn Metzler; a brother, Ray Metzler; and a sister, Patricia Young.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Rapha Residential Care for their care and compassion.
Memorial contributions may be made in Duane’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
