Elaine Steadman Simpson passed away peacefully at her home in Irmo, South Carolina, on July 2, 2025 — just one day before her 69th birthday. Born on July 3, 1956, in Bamberg, SC, Elaine lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep faith, and selfless service to others.
She was the devoted mother of two children, Calli Knight and Kyle Simpson, and the proud grandmother of four: Jada Kemp, Blakely Knight, Asher Knight, and Riley Simpson. She is also survived by her two brothers, Wyn and Walt Steadman.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Mary Steadman of Bamberg, SC.
She recently retired from her long-time “pay the bills” job after an incredible 47 years with Eastman Chemical Company, where she worked in the Environmental Department — spending the last 30 years as a shift supervisor.
But Elaine’s greatest legacy came through her calling: serving the local soccer community. For over 30 years, she was the heart of South Carolina United FC, where she served as club registrar. Her journey began when her children were young and she volunteered as a team manager. Over time, her role grew — and so did her impact. She helped guide thousands of families through their soccer journeys, often becoming the first face they saw and the voice that helped them feel at home. Her work opened doors — quite literally — for young athletes to step onto the field and into community.
We imagine she’s already settled into her next role — registrar at Heaven’s gates — helping people start their journey.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, July 9th at 11:00 AM at Chapin Christian Community Church (415 Lexington Ave, Chapin, SC 29036).
Elaine’s life was one of purpose, patience, and quiet power. She served faithfully, loved deeply, and leaves behind a legacy that will live on in every life she touched.
