Emma Jean Black

Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, Jean was the only child of Harry and Emma Culbert. She graduated from Wilby High School and later built a career of dedicated service with the Clemson Extension Service, where she faithfully worked until her retirement.

Jean shared many wonderful years with her beloved husband, Roy Black, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a life centered around family, faith, and the people they held dear. Jean carried the love and memories of their life together with her throughout the years.

Jean found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a creative spirit and loved stamping and making handmade cards for others. She enjoyed playing canasta with her friends and treasured time spent with her family. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she found great joy in serving alongside her dear church family at Fellowship Bible Church.

Above all, Jean was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her kindness, creativity, faith, and love for those around her will remain a lasting part of the lives she touched.

She is survived by her daughters, Beth Amick (Harold) and Amy Copes (Brad Thompson); her grandchildren, Layla Mathis (Chris) and Robbie Asghari; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Levi and Finn Mathis. In addition to her parents, Harry and Emma Culbert, Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy Black.

A private family service will be held at a later date to honor Jean’s life. The family deeply appreciates the thoughts and prayers of friends and loved ones during this time.
