Evangelia (Lia) Brown (Dadami), (66) passed away on April 5, 2020 after a long, courageous and graceful fight with cancer. Born in Kavala, Greece on March 14, 1954, she chose to further her education in London, England, where she studied English Literature and lived with her beloved Aunt and Uncle, Stanley (Stan) Hall and Panayiota (Penny) Hall (Dadami) and cousin Ashley. It was during this time where she met her husband, Kenneth (Ken). After her studies, she briefly returned to Greece before permanently moving to London in 1972. She and Ken were married in 1975 at St. Mary the Blessed Virgin church, in Addington, UK. Their ceremony was the first Greek/English wedding performed in the 1000-year-old church. In 1996, Lia and her family moved to South Carolina where she was fortunate to meet what has now become a second family, in the Greek community of Columbia.
Lia was an avid gardener and excellent cook, and enjoyed hosting her close circle of friends at her home. With a love of travel, Lia, along with Ken, Jay and Sarah enjoyed summers at her home in Greece, ski trips to Europe and would visit a new country at every opportunity. Once living in America, she would take several beach trips each year with her best friend, Maria Koutrakos, and planned trips to Greece every other summer to spend time with her cousin Ashley. She was the life of any party, lit up any room, and was the first to dance on a table at a Greek wedding.
Lia is preceded in death by her Mother, Alexandra Dadami, and Father, Kostas Dadami, cousin Nicolette West (Hall), Uncle Stanley Hall (Papou Stan), Aunt Panayiota Hall (Yia-Yia Yiota) and Mother-in Law, Anastasia Tillin (Crampton).
Lia is survived by her husband Ken, son, Jay Brown, son-in-law Mark Ziegler and daughter, Sarah Crocker. Her beloved grandson, Ian Michael Crocker and granddaughter, Evangelia (Evan) Mae Crocker were the center of her life. She was so proud to be their Yia-Yia and loved every moment she spent with them. In addition, she is survived by her cousin Ashley Hall, of Crystal Palace, England, who generously and lovingly spent the last three months helping to care for Lia. They spent their time reminiscing over the good times and watching British TV.
In lieu of flowers, if you feel so inclined, please consider a donation to South Carolina Oncology Associates (SCOA) or www.basenjirescue.org.
Due to the current inability to gather, a memorial service will be planned at a later date at the home of Sarah Crocker, where we shall celebrate her life.
For those who know the running joke with mum:
“I’m from Kavala. It’s in northern Greece. It’s like Monte Carlo, up on a mountain”-Lia
