Frances Wilson Gunter

Funeral service for Frances Wilson Gunter will be held at McGregor Presbyterian Church, 6505 St Andrews Rd, Columbia, SC, Monday, January 2, 2017 at 1:00 PM. A reception will follow the service at the church. Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel in Irmo.

Born, in Winnsboro, SC, she was the daughter of the late Eddie Wilson and Nellie Gardner Wilson. Mrs. Gunter attended Winnsboro and Greenbriar Schools in South Carolina. For many years she worked for Retail Credit Corporation. Mrs. Gunter was instrumental in bringing Kaplan Educational Testing Centers to the Midlands of South Carolina in the early 1980s and was co-director until her retirement in 1993. She was a charter member of McGregor Presbyterian Church of Columbia, SC. Frances loved her family dearly. She enjoyed walking, Bible Study, her church family, Shepherd Center Classes and feeding the birds in her backyard.

Surviving are her husband T. Luther Gunter (Luke) and children, Dr. Thomas Luther Gunter, Jr.,(Jackie) of Lenoir City, TN, Dr. Timothy Allen Gunter (Susan) of Chattanooga, TN, Jean Gunter Blaikie (Doug) of York, SC, Dean Edward Gunter (Alicia) of Nuremberg, Germany, thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Their joys and concerns were in the center of her heart and gave voice to her deepest prayers. She is also survived by three sisters, Dorothy Branham of Winnsboro, SC; Abbie Skipper of Jacksonville, FL; and Mary Nickas of Columbia, SC. Frances Gunter was predeceased by her son, Stewart Gardner Gunter; her brother Alfred Wilson and her sister Myria Wilson Williams.

The family would like to express a deep and heartfelt thanks for the many expressions of love, care and friendship extended to Frances these last few months. The beautiful truth is that they are too many to name.
